Tsushima, an island with the largest amount of marine debris in Japan Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, is a “border island” that floats between Kyushu and the Korean Peninsula. In ancient times, it prospered as a base for trade and exchange with the mainland, and even now it is an attractive island where its unique nature, history, and culture remain strong. However, currently, Tsushima is faced with the unreasonable reality that the largest amount of marine debris in Japan is washed ashore due to the effects of ocean currents and monsoons. [Image 2

Directly managed concept store “YAMAP STORE” with specifications that make you feel familiar with the sea litter problem in Tsushima Currently, in Tsushima, while efforts are being made to dispose of marine litter that has washed ashore, a huge amount of marine litter continues to wash ashore, far exceeding the disposal capacity of the island. If sea litter is not treated, there are concerns about an increase in carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) emissions due to the deterioration of plastics and an adverse impact on ecosystems due to microplastics, which may eventually affect the coast of the Sea of Japan. there is.
Globally, the problem of marine plastics is predicted to exceed the weight of fish* by 2050. Yamap will continue to create many
opportunities for you to come into contact with Tsushima, which is at the forefront, and think about the future of the sea, which is closely related to mountains.
