Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation
Implementation of a demonstration project for labor saving in the production and harvesting process of agricultural products using automatic harvesting robots utilizing local 5G and AI image
recognition
NIPPON TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE CORPORATION Akita Branch (Branch Manager: Homare Sawamura, hereinafter referred to as NTT East) was selected for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications FY2022 “Development Demonstration for Realization of Problem-Solving Local 5G” in August 2022. A “demonstration consortium” was formed by 16 companies and organizations, and demonstrations aimed at realizing a production area revitalization model using local 5G in each region of Daisen City, Katagami City, Kazuno City, and Misato Town in Akita Prefecture. We will carry out the business. (Local 5G environment construction uses our managed local 5G service “Giga Raku 5G (R)”.) 1. Background to the demonstration
In order to strengthen the domestic food production base, which is feared to be vulnerable due to the aging and declining population, we will realize the social implementation of super labor-saving technology through production site demonstration of smart agricultural technology, and improve productivity and profits. We need to improve. However, due to the increase in production costs due to the
introduction of cutting-edge smart agricultural technology, the profit of the management body has not necessarily improved, which is hindering the acceleration of social implementation. In order to accelerate the social implementation of smart agriculture, it is necessary to reduce production costs by consolidating work in each production area and demonstrating a sharing model.
Under these circumstances, in this demonstration, local 5G high-speed transmission is used at each stage of the food chain from production to sales, and production costs are reduced through the realization of a production area revitalization model using high-definition video and real metaverse technology. We aim to reduce
2. Main demonstration contents
■Technical demonstration
In this demonstration, 2 vinyl greenhouses and 1 roadside station will be set as fields, and a local 5G base station will be installed at each location to demonstrate the technology. By developing a local 5G system at each vinyl house and roadside station located in the rural area and measuring radio wave propagation characteristics, we aim to establish technology related to area construction and improve the flexibility of area construction.
■ Demonstration of issues
We will utilize local 5G in each process from production to sales and implement the following initiatives aimed at ultra-labor saving. ・Remote guidance and harvest enemy period judgment using real metaverse technology and AI image recognition
・Remote control of strawberry picking and transportation robots ・Remote shopping using real metaverse technology

By realizing data-driven agriculture that considers dissemination such as sharing and work consolidation, we aim for sustainable farm management and income improvement, and demonstrate a production area revitalization model.
3. Demonstration period
January 4, 2023 to March 31, 2023
* After the completion of this demonstration project, we will utilize the built local 5G system and cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries “Smart Agriculture Demonstration Project” (operating body: National Agriculture and Food Research Organization) to perform task demonstration work. We will continue to work on
4. Demonstration schedule
・System construction will be completed in late December 2022. ・In the technical demonstration, we will conduct radio wave
characteristics tests. Work will be completed in late January 2023. ・In the demonstration project, the production and harvesting process of agricultural products will be controlled by automatic harvesting robots utilizing local 5G and AI image recognition.
We will demonstrate the sales effects of remote shopping using labor saving and the metaverse. By mid-February 2023
I am planning.
