It’s a reprint of a wartime history textbook for elementary school, but when you read it again, you’ll realize how romantic our country’s history is and how human our heroes are. “Shogoko Kokushi” inspired the canonical history based on the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, and at the same time, it can be seen that history was taught as a story full of education. You can feel the depth of the Japanese politics and the depth of the culture, which has been taught from myths and centered on the emperor. Such ingenuity is also done casually.

This textbook runs through the spirit of Bushido and Japanese aesthetics, so the famous scene of Kusunoki Masashige’s farewell to Sakurai is depicted in a rokyoku style. Chikafusa Kitabatake and his son Akiie’s virtuous deeds and defeats as revered imperial family members are also written aesthetically.

In the early modern period, it was unavoidable that the tone of the Imperial historical view came to the fore. But perhaps this was the sense of history and the atmosphere of that era. This is because a similar tone can be seen in Shumei Okawa and Soho Tokutomi.
The evaluation of the early modern period is foreshadowed by the interpretation of the Meiji government, Hideyoshi is overestimated, and Ieyasu is relatively underestimated. It is clear that the Satsuma-Choshu view of history was mixed in.
These are on a different level from the post-war leftist view of history and have been scientifically disproved, but the fact that Takauji Ashikaga was labeled as a villain through the Southern Court view of history was probably the limit of pre-war textbooks. Recent historiography has proved that Takauji was also a respectable imperial family, but these historical disputes are left out in this paper. Satsuma-Choshu view of history is suddenly exposed, and the evaluation of Katamori MATSUDAIRA is too low. The overestimation of Shoin Yoshida is still the same today, so even if you put this aside, the role of Seinan is just one line.
Now the question is, why did GHQ black out this textbook, collect it, and erase it from the world? After the war, did he force a completely opposite view of history?

The explosive spiritual power released by this textbook, the mass of pathos, moved the Japanese people at the time, and the whole nation was burning with the spirit of Bushido like a fireball.
GHQ trembled with fear.
The only way to completely extinguish this spirit of the Japanese and force them to follow America is to deny history. As part of the brainwashing of the Japanese, a false or falsified history of Japan was forced upon them, the Greater East Asia War became the Pacific War, and national heroes were demeaned. The Japanese spirit was deeply wounded.
