The only store in the world where you can drive through glasses in Gunma Prefecture, one of the nation’s leading “car powerhouses” Gunma Prefecture is also known as one of the nation’s leading “car powerhouses”, with a very high driver’s license acquisition rate and the number of cars owned per household. Against this backdrop, in April 2013, JINS Power Mall Maebashi Minami Store opened in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, as the world’s first roadside store with a drive-through eyeglass sales service. This innovative service became a topic of conversation for its convenience of being able to purchase and receive eyeglasses while riding in a car in areas where cars are the main means of transportation. I’m here.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its opening, the interior of the store has been renewed while maintaining the drive-thru function of the glasses. Based on the concept of “together with the community, to be a store that will continue to be loved for years to come”, it will be reborn as a space that incorporates Maebashi’s uniqueness while making the most of its history.
It has evolved into a space made up of fixtures and benches with the image of “bricks” full of Maebashi!
Makoto Tanijiri and Ai Yoshida of SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE, who worked on the design at the time of opening, are in charge of this renewal. In order to continue to be loved by the local community, the exterior of the store will remain unchanged, and the store will evolve into a space where you can feel the newness everywhere. The fixtures and counters use tiles inspired by the bricks often seen in the streets of Maebashi City. By using the same tiles on the three-dimensional benches that look like art pieces newly installed outdoors, we create a connection between the inside and the outside. While incorporating JINS’s corporate color, red, into the entire space with a new expression, we aimed to create an open space like a park where everyone can easily enter.
JINS Power Mall Maebashi Minami store will continue to develop stores that are rooted in the community so that they will continue to be loved by everyone in the area for the next 10 years.
