Toyota Tsusho Group’s electronics trading company, NEXTY Electronics Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Yasuhiro Kakihara, hereinafter referred to as NEXTY Electronics) has launched Spectronik for the electric radio-controlled mower manufactured and sold by UNIC Co., Ltd. In February 2023, we developed an eco-friendly electric radio-controlled mower that can be driven for a long time by installing a small hydrogen fuel cell made by Pte. Ltd. (Spectronik) and providing technical support. . We will aim for early sales in the future.
Hydrogen is expected to be a next-generation energy that does not emit CO2. Nexty Electronics signed a distributorship agreement with Spectronik in May 2022 to supply Spectronik hydrogen fuel for relatively small power applications such as ground and water vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, robots and electric radio-controlled mowers. We have been working on the development of applications that can be equipped with batteries. Among them, we focused on electric
radio-controlled mowers, which have problems with long-time driving, and have been developing them since 2021 with UNIC Co., Ltd. and JFE Container Co., Ltd.
Conventional electric radio-controlled mowers use lithium-ion batteries. However, there was a problem that it could not be used for long hours of continuous work in areas without a charging environment such as hilly and mountainous areas, or in wide areas such as solar power plants and orchards. In order to solve this problem, NEXTY Electronics has developed an electric radio-controlled mower equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell that can be driven for a longer time than conventional lithium-ion batteries. At the stage of the demonstration experiment, operation was confirmed with two 2.8-liter 19.6Mpa high-pressure hydrogen containers installed, and for future mass production, two 6.8-liter 29.4Mpa high-pressure hydrogen containers will be installed. As a result, it is planned to ensure a continuous work capacity of about 8 hours*.
NEXTY Electronics will contribute to the resolution of social issues through such means as switching to energy sources that reduce CO2 emissions in order to achieve the Japanese government’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
