余剰在庫となった商材を活用した目に関わる社会貢献活動。826本のサングラスとメガネフレームをインドネシア・バリ島に寄贈。
About this initiative:
OUI Inc. has developed an attachment-type medical device Smart Eye Camera (hereafter SEC) that enables ophthalmic examinations by attaching it to the iPhone, and is available in Vietnam, Nepal, Brazil, India, East Timor, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, etc. We support ophthalmological examinations in the medically depopulated areas of Japan.
In the eyewear market, as part of our social contribution activities related to the eyes, we are conducting CSR activities that utilize products such as sunglasses, eyeglass frames, and eyeglass lenses that have become surplus inventory due to design changes and store consolidation.
The joint efforts of OUI Co., Ltd. and the eyeglass market, which began in 2021, are in support of OUI Co., Ltd., which is engaged in activities to reduce blindness and provide medical support in areas where sufficient medical care is not available. We donate sunglasses and glasses that are worn to protect the eyes from light and dust after treatment for cataracts, etc.
This is the third time that we have donated eyeglass frames and lenses to Malawi in Africa two years ago and a joint donation of sunglasses to Kenya last year.

In Indonesia, blindness and visual impairment due to preventable ophthalmic diseases due to a shortage of ophthalmologists and medical professionals are serious issues. According to the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), Indonesia has 3.7 million blind people and 35 million visually impaired people. About 1/10 of Japan’s population, there are many places where
ophthalmologists are not stationed on remote islands with low populations, making it difficult to access eye care.
OUI Inc. collaborates with the John Fawcett Foundation/Udayana University, which continues to work for those who need eye care in remote areas of Indonesia, and conducts support activities and joint research using SEC on remote islands and remote areas. is proceeding. The donated sunglasses and eyeglass frames will be used to protect the eyes of people in these areas after undergoing cataract surgery and other treatments.

OUI Inc. is a university-originated venture company founded in July 2016 by an ophthalmologist at Keio University School of Medicine, with the philosophy of “growing medical care”. We developed the SEC, an iPhone attachment type medical device that enables ophthalmic examinations, from scratch, and completed it in about a year and a half.
Cataract is the number one cause of blindness in the world. Although cataracts are highly unlikely to lead to blindness if treated at the appropriate time, blindness due to cataracts has become a social problem in developing countries. SEC is a compact medical device that can be attached to an iPhone, making it possible to conduct
ophthalmological examinations anywhere, such as in areas without electricity or in disaster-stricken areas.
