13 years after the Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, Futaba Town, Fukushima Prefecture, announces “Futaba Tentative Vision 2024” to illuminate the future of the disaster-stricken area
*Creating a future hypothesis with Kazuhiko Tomiyama and other experts and townspeople, and inviting various people to discuss and take action*
*
From 2019, the Hiraku Futaba Secretariat (Headquarters: Toshima Ward, Tokyo, Representative: Yohei Shimada) has been working with the Fukushima Prefecture Futaba Town Hall, residents, Kosuke Motani, Kazuhiko Tomiyama, etc. to plan town development with an eye toward 2050. We have held repeated discussions with experts from a wide variety of fields. We would like to announce the result of this effort, the “tentative vision.” The purpose of calling it “temporary” is to use this vision as a springboard to encourage discussion and action among people from a variety of positions, and to bring together colleagues to update together. *

Background of “Futaba Tentative Vision 2024”
Due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear power plant accident that occurred on March 11, 2011, evacuation orders were issued to all 7,000 residents, and the order was lifted in some areas 11 years later in August 2022. Currently, about 60 people live in the town. As reconstruction projects in Futaba Town, Fukushima Prefecture progress, interviews with experts regarding the future of Futaba Town were conducted as part of the “FY2020 Futaba Town Recovery and Town Development Plan Promotion Support Project” and “FY2023 Futaba Town Recovery and Town Development Plan Promotion Support Project”. The site was edited and created by the Hirakufutaba Secretariat with the cooperation of the Futaba Town Hall, based on opinions from a future review meeting attended by townspeople and businesses.
