Forcetech Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Yohei Takemura, hereinafter “Forcetech”), KDDI Research Institute, Inc. (Headquarters: Fujimino City, Saitama Prefecture, President: Hajime Nakamura, hereinafter “KDDI”) General Research Institute”) and Heralbony Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, President: Takaya Matsuda, hereinafter “Heralbony”) will be held from May 18th (Thursday) to 22nd (Monday), 2023. During the event, an IoT smart trash can “SmaGO” will be installed at the International Media Center of the G7 Hiroshima Summit 2023 to introduce initiatives aimed at realizing a sustainable society through the fusion of digital technology and art.

“SmaGO” is a solution that utilizes smart trash cans developed by Forcetech Co., Ltd. More than 80,000 units of this trash can have been introduced in more than 50 countries around the world, and it has realized the efficiency and optimization of garbage collection and the beautification of cities in various places.

Since the solar panel on the top generates and stores electricity, not only does it require no power supply, but it can also be used without burdening the environment. It uses very little power, less than 5W per day, and can operate without problems even in bad weather for about two weeks.

When a certain amount of garbage accumulates, the compaction function automatically activates. It can be compressed to about 1/5 and can store 600 liters of garbage per unit, so the garbage can will not overflow and you can keep the city clean.

An internal sensor constantly detects the amount of garbage that has accumulated and shares it with the cloud using the 4G communication function. You can check the amount of trash in each trash can in real time from your PC or smartphone. Efficient garbage collection is also possible with a function that sends an email alert when the trash can is full and a function that analyzes where and when garbage tends to accumulate.
2. Efforts to realize a sustainable society through fusion with digital technology
Forcetech and KDDI Research Institute have installed SmaGO in the prefecture in order to reduce littering and overflow from trash cans. We are verifying the effect of installing SmaGO through analysis using the developed simulator. This time, at the G7 Hiroshima Summit International Media Center, we will introduce this initiative and introduce the “automatic resource discrimination device” that automatically discriminates the type of garbage (bottles, cans, PET bottles) that is put into SmaGO developed by KDDI Research Institute. A prototype of “Equipped with SmaGO” is installed as a trash can in the venue and is being demonstrated.
Forcetech and KDDI Research Institute will promote digital
transformation to reduce litter that causes outflow and promote resource recycling in order to reduce marine plastic waste.

3. Efforts to realize a sustainable society through fusion with art On April 1, 2023, Heralbony and Forcetech launched the “Smart Action Project” with the aim of forming a recycling-oriented society that starts with the proper disposal of garbage (Note 2). As part of this, we have installed and operated SmaGO wrapped in the art of Heralboni contract artists on the sidewalk along Omotesando in Tokyo. This time, at the G7 Hiroshima Summit International Media Center, we have installed and operated SmaGO, which is colored with art works such as artists living in Hiroshima Prefecture, where the event is held. With a sustainable garbage collection system and a world colored by unique artists, we aim to create new value in society while enjoying art, and to realize a sustainable society and a society that recognizes diversity.
[Introduction of authors and works]
In this initiative, works drawn by artists living in Hiroshima prefecture, works drawn on the theme of origami, which was the motif of the logo design, and works that can be associated with open relationships and mutual exchanges between countries. 7 works such as this were used as designs. Below is an example of that design.

Author: GAMON
Enrollment: General Incorporated Association HAP (Hiroshima Prefecture) Encountered a collection of Magritte’s works on the bookshelf of the institution he attended, and started painting at the age of 15. It is a pleasure to see the art I have written, and I draw each line and shape with amazing concentration. Her concentration is so strong that she doesn’t even notice when someone talks to her. From small to large, he fills the canvas with his characteristic sense of color. While somewhat ethnic, his mysterious works attract a wide range of eyes from men and women of all ages.
Including this initiative, Forcetech, KDDI Research Institute, and Heralbony will further work on solving environmental and welfare issues and disseminating them to the world in order to realize a sustainable society.
