Johoku Yakult Sales Co., Ltd. held a “Mental and Physical Health Festa” at “Yui no Mori Arakawa” (Arakawa 2-chome, Arakawa-ku) on Saturday, April 15th.
On the day of the event, a talk show was held to think about mental and physical health. Special guests included former professional baseball player Punch Sato, rakugo storyteller Dankei Tachikawa, and Dr. Yusei Minamiya (University of Tokyo Hospital).

Mr. Punch Sato worked with Arakawa Ward staff and us to distribute cancer awareness leaflets to visitors and enthusiastically encouraged them to undergo cancer screening.

A total of 500 people attended the event. The vaudeville and cancer lecture event that started at 1:30 p.m. quickly filled the capacity of 120 people, and the live broadcasting area set up outside the hall was so successful that some people had to stand.

The venue was filled with loud laughter from start to finish, with occasional commentary interspersed with short stories so that even customers who had never experienced rakugo could enjoy it.

In the following cancer lecture by Dr. Minamiya, the importance of preventing cancer and early detection in case of cancer was conveyed. In the past, it was believed that genetic factors played a major role in the development of cancer.
However, we now know that only 5% of all cancers are due to genetics. Tobacco and an irregular or unhealthy lifestyle have a greater impact. Lack of exercise is also not good. Some cancers that are more common in women are slightly more likely to be infected, but in any case, you can reduce your chances of getting cancer by taking care of your lifestyle.
According to Dr. Minamiya, excessive drinking can also be a factor in cancer. By the way, people who drink alcohol and their faces turn red are 40 times more likely to develop esophageal cancer than those who don’t.

In the past, cancer was known to be a scary disease, but now, if cancer can be detected at an early stage, more than 90% of cancers can be cured, and treatment methods have been established.
Quitting smoking, not drinking excessively, exercising regularly, avoiding obesity, and avoiding stress… If you can do all of these things, you will be able to reduce your cancer risk by as much as 40%. In modern society, it can be difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle all the time. According to Dr. Minamiya, “Even if you can’t do all of these things at that time, as you continue to do some, your cancer risk will gradually decrease.”
