Sakura City
[Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture] “Sakura no Iro (collection
exhibition)” will be held at the Sakura City Museum of Art from 6/3
Asai Tadashi (1856-1907), a Western-style painter who was born as a son of a feudal retainer of the Sakura Domain and was active in the Meiji period, moved to Kyoto in his later years and instructed younger generations at the Shogoin Institute of Western-style Painting and the Kyoto High School of Arts and Crafts. This exhibition introduces the works of artists who were taught by Asai, such as Hideki Tsudori (1873-1943), a Western-style painter from Sakura who supported Asai’s activities. In addition, works with animal motifs by artists related to Sakura and Boso, such as metalworker Hidema Katori (1874-1954) and Nobuo Tsuda (1875-1946) will be exhibited.
