JU-CAT (Japan-UAE Coordination Scheme For Advanced Technology) is a scheme for future innovation and the development of young human resources in both Japan and the UAE. Through this scheme, UAE investors can invest in Japanese start-up companies that are interested in expanding their business globally, including in the UAE, thereby benefiting both Japan and the UAE. JU-CAT is one of the pillars of the Japan-UAE Innovation Partnership (JUIP), which was announced by the leaders of both countries during Prime Minister Kishida’s visit to the UAE in July of this year. It was confirmed that cooperation in the field of advanced technology will be further strengthened.
As a venture capital firm in the materials and chemical industries, UMI has been serving as the coordinator of JU-CAT since January 2023, and through this agreement, UMI will serve as the coordinator of JU-CAT for startups in a wide range of industries that combine deep tech and data science. Abies Ventures, which supports investment in deep tech startups, and Real Tech Holdings, which has knowledge and know-how based on actual experience in deep tech startup management and a rich track record of support, will newly join the company. Each of the three companies will serve as a coordinator and strengthen ties with the UAE, which is important for Japan’s energy policy. We will provide domestic startups with business and technology demonstration opportunities in the Middle East, attracting investment from overseas, and contributing to the creation of new innovations.
Based on the needs of UAE companies, the three companies will find the most suitable domestic startups, collaborate with UAE companies, and aim to create new businesses in the UAE. In collaboration between UAE companies and domestic startups, we will utilize the knowledge of the three companies to improve corporate value.
