On September 8th at 11:11pm (local time), the largest earthquake ever occurred in Morocco, leaving up to 380,000 people in need of assistance. Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), an international NGO with branches in approximately 120 countries around the world, is working with local partners to provide emergency support to those affected by the disaster.
This earthquake is characterized by its epicenter being extremely shallow at 18.5km. Magnitude is 6.8. It was the largest earthquake ever recorded in Morocco, with 2,012 people reported to have died and 2,059 injured, more than 1,400 of whom were seriously injured. The damage caused by the collapse of brick buildings was extensive, and as many as 380,000 people were in need of help.
There is an immediate need for shelter, food, water, and supplies for those who have lost their homes, as well as care for the injured and mentally damaged, cleaning up collapsed buildings, and rebuilding their homes. Support is needed in many areas, including initiatives. Adora will dispatch two emergency response staff and will work with local partners to provide support. Adora has a license to operate in Morocco and has been operating since 1993.
Although we are shocked by the worst damage in Morocco’s history, Adora, together with the local people, is working closely with the affected people and providing the necessary support to the victims of the Moroccan earthquake. We have opened a special fundraising site for overseas emergency support, including support.
