Katsushika Hokusai is a world-renowned painter who was born and raised in Sumida Ward. “Hokusai Kouta” allows you to enjoy Japanese art and performing arts with your eyes and ears by listening to the
performance of a short song while watching the masterpiece projected on a screen. Following “Part 1: Sumida River” and “Part 2: Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji,” “Part 2: Ryogoku Shinju” will feature puppeteers from the puppet theater Bunraku-za, who will create and perform a love story set on the banks of the Sumida River. . The first love of a town girl living in Ryogoku. The encounter with the dear young man was short-lived, but something stood between them… Beautiful bunraku puppets will perform sad love stories to the tune of Hokusai’s ukiyo-e prints and famous kuta songs. Enjoy a stage performance that combines bunraku puppets, kuta, rakugo, hayashi, and ukiyo-e.

Organization overview
A unit consisting of Eika Chishimi and Koumaki Kouta, which aims to popularize kouta and produces performances and videos that utilize Japanese art and traditional architecture. In 2021, we will premiere “Hokusai Kouta Part 1 Sumida River,” a performance of a short song while projecting high-definition images of Katsushika Hokusai one after another on a screen. Due to the favorable reception, “Hokusai Kouta Part 2: Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji” was performed in 2022. Performance overview
