The game industry enters a new technology cycle every 25 years. The rise of semiconductors gave birth to the gaming industry, spurring a cycle focused on solving the fundamental problem of “fun,” and inventing many of the game genres we know today. Fueled by the Internet and mobile computing, the second cycle was eager to bring gaming to the masses, giving rise to free-to-play and freemium business models. I believe the next cycle will come. This cycle will be driven by decentralized computing (blockchain) and artificial intelligence (AI). The next problem to be solved is user participation in the economy and value generation.
