Approximately 140 square meters of “Koroyawa (R)”, a normally hard, walkable floor that absorbs the impact of falls, has been installed at the Iwata City General Health and Welfare Center “i-Plaza”. ~ The donation of Koroyawa was made possible due to its “shock absorption” and “walking comfort.” This will be the first time in Japan to install it at a public childcare support facility*1. ~ ……
Friday, August 25, 2023, a floor that reduces the risk of falls, fractures, and trauma developed and sold by Magic Shields Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Representative Director: Akiji Shimomura, hereinafter referred to as Magic Shields) We donated approximately 140 square meters of “Koroyawa (R)” to the “Health Promotion Room” of I-Plaza, Iwata City General Health and Welfare Center. This is the first time in Japan that “Koroyawa” has been introduced into a public child care support facility.

Background of “Koroyawa” donation
The Iwata City General Health and Welfare Center i-Plaza Health Promotion Room, which we donated, is mainly used for infant health checkups, etc., and carpet tiles were laid on the flooring, but it was not safe and comfortable. They were looking for a way to create an environment where children and parents can spend their time with peace of mind.
In the case of carpet tiles, they need to be replaced every time someone vomits, etc. Also, from October 2023, a dance class for people with disabilities will be held in the same room, making it difficult to use carpet tiles. The special donation was made possible in response to a request from a facility manager who was interested in “Koroyawa,” which has a comfortable walking experience.
This will be the first time in Japan that it has been introduced into a public childcare facility*1, and the usability and durability of “Koroyawa” will also be verified in an environment where children and dancers are present.

Future prospects

introduction into medical institutions and welfare facilities, as well as public facilities and general housing.
“Koroyawa (R)” is a new floor that reduces the risk of falls and fractures ――――――――――――――――――――――――
“KOROYAWA” combines two properties that were previously thought to be difficult to achieve: “walking stability” and “shock
absorption.” “Koroyawa” is a floor that absorbs the impact when you fall, and is normally hard so you can walk on it with peace of mind. “is. The variable rigidity structure (mechanical metamaterial) inside “KOROYAWA” maintains walking stability equivalent to that of regular flooring, but does not dent significantly when moving in a wheelchair, using a walker, or using a cane. In the event of a fall, it is now possible to absorb the shock and reduce the risk of falling fractures and injuries. (Patent pending)
Currently, there are two types of shock-absorbing mats, “Koroyawa Mat,” which is only 1.2 cm thick, and “Koroyawa Floor,” which can be installed and constructed over a wide range of areas, as well as “Okudake Koroyawa,” which increases bedside safety. ”, we are selling and deploying “Dokodemo Koroyawa”, which allows you to freely customize the installation range, to medical institutions, welfare facilities, and some home use.
The characteristics of “Koroyawa” are as follows.
■Walking comfort: The heel and toes do not sink when walking, and when using a cane or wheelchair, and it is hard enough to not dent, realizing “comfort when walking/moving in a wheelchair.”
■Shock Absorption: When falling from a chair or bed, transferring to a wheelchair, or falling from walking, the product sinks significantly and has “shock absorption” that reduces the risk of femoral fractures. In the event of a fall, the impact against the flooring is reduced to about half, which is less than the standard load (221kgf) for femur fractures in osteoporosis.

Magic Shields Co., Ltd. is a startup founded in 2019 that conducts research and development, manufacturing, and sales of new materials and structures called “mechanical metamaterials” based on automotive engineering and medicine. In order to reduce the number of fractures caused by falls among the elderly, which are increasing around the world, Magic Shields uses a variable stiffness structure that is soft only when falling, to improve walking stability and shock absorption, which was previously considered difficult. We have developed “Koroyawa,” a flooring material that has both the characteristics of “sexuality” and provide it to medical institutions, welfare facilities, and some home use.
Our mission is to solve problems related to falls using unique technology and innovative mechanisms, with the aim of realizing a society in which “all people can move freely according to their own will without worrying about breaking bones.”
