◆Overview National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu) has announced that “Young Researchers Surrounding President Yasutomo Nasu A meeting was held. The gathering was held in conjunction with the visit to Misasa Town, Tottori Prefecture for the 66th Curie Festival Ceremony. A total of 16 people participated, including foreign students who came to Japan under the program. This time, it was held in the form of a lunch meeting with President Nasu, where opinions were exchanged while eating, and the participating young researchers introduced their research and life in Misasa-machi.
President Nasu introduced the way of thinking that should be cherished as a researcher and how to overcome difficult obstacles from his life as a researcher, including his experience studying abroad, and also introduced the vision of the university. He also said, “We are a family,” and sincerely listened to the diverse voices of young researchers raised during the round-table conference and offered advice.
Ankan Bhattacharyya (2nd year master’s student, Presidency University, Kolkata, India), an internship student who participated in the discussion, said, “President Nasu explained in an easy-to-understand way what we should do to bring about positive changes in our lives. I learned that it is especially important to work hard, have a passion for success, and never give up until the very end.”
In addition, Dilan Harsha Fernando Diyalanthonige (1st year, Department of Earth and Planetary Materials Science), Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, said, “Connections with researchers are very important, so I would like to collaborate with universities and institutions around the world. I would like to actively present the results of my research at academic conferences in order to gain diverse perspectives,” he said about his enthusiasm for the future. The conference was a great success and served as a place for lively exchanges of opinions with young researchers.
With the encouragement from President Nasu, the motivation for research activities reached its peak, and on August 8, a research results presentation was held by the internship students who participated in MISIP, and each student spent about six weeks at the research institute. We announced the results of our research activities.
At the completion ceremony after the presentation, eight internship students were presented with a certificate of completion and commemorative goods from the Institute of Polar and Planetary Materials, by Director Yoshino of the Institute of Polar and Planetary Materials. I did. Researching eight internship students who have completed the entire program, hoping that the small connections between individuals built in Misasa will eventually connect the world and lead to the promotion of science and the resolution of social issues. We sent them out with all our might. Please look forward to our efforts to become a research university that co-creates the future of the region and the earth and contributes to global innovation, and aims to become a regional core and distinctive research university: Okayama University.
