“Yamakita no Omineiri” is a folk performing art that has been passed down from ancient times in the Kyowa district of Yamakita Town. “Omineiri” means training in the mountains, and it is thought that the ritual of Shugendo was turned into a performing arts, and its origin is said to have started during the Nanbokucho period, when Imperial Prince Muneyoshi escaped to Kawamura Castle. There is also a tradition, and the melodies and lyrics of the flute and drum give a feel of the Manyo era. There are 11 performances of 8 types, with approximately 80 men performing roles such as tengu, lion, okame, yamabushi, taiko drum, and flute.
