Throughout the year, we deliver moving flower landscapes with the seasons, based on the concept of “Flowers make everyone happy.” In autumn, we hold the “Autumn Rose and Flower Garden,” where English roses decorate the “Sora no Hanabatake Sera Kogen Flower Forest.”

Lecturer introduction
The invited lecturer, Makoto Hiraoka, is a rose garden designer with 25 years of professional experience growing English roses. He is one of the few gardeners who knows how English roses grow in the garden.

For three years from August 2005, he was dispatched to Kazanlak, Bulgaria (commonly known as the Valley of Roses) as a short-term rose strategy expert for the Japan International Cooperation Agency. After that, he joined David Austin Roses Co., Ltd. in 2006. Since 2011, he has been active as a technical specialist, mainly designing rose gardens in various places and private rose gardens, and giving lectures on rose cultivation. Since 2021, I have been working as an outside contract gardener to raise my children, similar to the activities I did when I was an employee.

Autumn rose and flower garden overview
“Autumn Rose and Flower Garden” is currently being held at Sera Kogen Flower Forest. The garden is China’s first English rose forest, and is located at an altitude of approximately 540 meters, with 7,200 roses of 150 varieties and 2,000 perennial plants of 200 varieties planted. Please spend a relaxing autumn day in Sora’s flower garden.
