The Japan Vegetable Sommelier Association (Chuo-ku, Tokyo,
Representative Director: Eiji Fukui, hereinafter referred to as the Association) is commemorating November 3rd, Seasoning Day, and is holding an event called “The Association” to spread the appeal of seasonings to society. The final judging session for the 14th Seasoning Championship 2023 will be held. A total of 211 entries were submitted from all over the country, the largest number in the history of the event, and the 50 selected items that passed the initial screening by food experts will move on to the final screening. The final judging session, including a tasting session, will be held at Hanshin Umeda Main Store’s “Shokusai Terrace,” and the No. 1 Seasoning for 2023 will be decided on October 29th (Sunday). On Friday, November 3rd (holiday), we will hold a Seasoning Day event featuring
award-winning products at the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store.

Last year, easy-to-use spice seasonings received top honors due to demand for outdoor activities and barbecues during the coronavirus pandemic.
This year’s trend is attracting attention to seasonings that can become “new standard” that expand new ways to enjoy food while making use of local ingredients. Among the standard seasonings such as miso, soy sauce, and sauces, a wide variety of innovative seasonings have appeared. A collection of seasonings that will create a new Japanese food culture in the future.

About the seasoning championship
This event is held to spread the appeal of seasonings to society and revitalize the seasoning industry. The purpose is to discover local seasonings from all over the country that are known only to those in the know, as well as seasonings recommended by manufacturers, and to make society aware of their existence. The event received a great response, with sales of winning products increasing by 5 to 10 times compared to the previous year. At the “Seasoning Championship 2022” held in October 2022, where 184 items were entered, “Horinishi Black” won first place overall and sold out immediately! Other winning products sold out day after day, and seasoning manufacturers were excited and excited. In the special project “The 1st Dressing Championship” held on March 7, 2023, 91 dressings were entered from all over the country. Many of our unique seasonings have been featured on TV and other media, drawing a lot of attention.
