Tokushima Prefectural Museum of Modern Art Special Exhibition “Dean Bowen Exhibition” now being held
Dean Bowen’s first full-scale solo exhibition in Japan!
……
The Tokushima Prefectural Museum of Modern Art will be holding a special exhibition, “Dean Bowen Exhibition,” until December 10th (Sunday). Approximately 150 works by Dean Bowen, one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, will be on display.
We hope that you will enjoy the charming and heart-warming works of Australia’s various creatures, and take this as an opportunity to rediscover the richness of the nature, cities, and living things around us.
Dean Bowen (1957-) is one of the leading contemporary Australian writers. Based in Melbourne, he is active in a variety of genres including prints, oil paintings, watercolors, sculptures, and assemblages using waste materials. He loves all kinds of art, including Western modernism and primitive art, and is greatly influenced by Jean Dubuffet, the master of Art Brut (raw art), who goes beyond the conventional framework of art.
This exhibition will introduce Bowen’s diverse creative activities through approximately 150 works. Familiar motifs such as Australia’s vast land, nature, cities, and the people and animals that live there are expressed in a friendly manner full of humor and imagination. Species endemic to Australia such as the echidna and koala also appear there. We hope that while enjoying these charming and heartwarming works, you will also have the opportunity to rediscover the richness of nature, cities, and living things around us.
