……
Masataka Kosaka (born 1934 – died 1996) was a professor at Kyoto University’s Faculty of Law, an international political scientist known as the brain behind Prime Minister Eisaku Sato, a commentator on the news program “Sunday Project,” and an avid Hanshin fan. Mr. Takasaka’s new book, “The 20th Century as History” (Shincho Sensho), his first in 27 years, attracted attention immediately after its release on November 16th, and Shinchosha decided to reprint it on November 20th.
This book is a new edition based on recordings of the six consecutive lectures “The 20th Century as History” that Mr. Kosaka gave at Shinjuku Kinokuniya Hall from January to June 1990. Even though the series of wars had just ended, Mr. Kosaka said, “Russia cannot be forced to stop being a great power” (p. 47), so the post-Cold War international order is designed to force Russia to “promote some face.” He gave a series of insights, as if he had foreseen the current war, such as “It is disturbing to see what Israel is doing in the Middle East” (p. 206). It is attracting attention.
