On Tokunoshima, which is said to be the “Island of Children”, this is an organization that develops child-rearing support services such as home-visit child-rearing services and nursery schools. Our mission is to pay attention to the needs of the child-rearing generation and create an environment where parents and children can feel that “raising children is fun” without isolating them.
What is a “third place for children”?
Since 2016, the Nippon Foundation has been playing a central role in establishing these centers nationwide with the aim of nurturing the ability for all children to survive and become independent in the future. In the “child’s third place to live”, each situation such as isolation and eating alone due to single-parent households and double-income parents, difficulties in learning and living due to developmental characteristics, and loss of opportunities due to economic reasons. We provide a place to stay after school for children who are facing more difficulties, and provide meals, establishment of study habits and lifestyle habits, and experience opportunities. At the same time, we will work with schools, regions, and specialized institutions to function as a hub for a “regional child-rearing community where no one is left behind.” Currently, there are 152 locations nationwide, and we are aiming to open 500 locations nationwide.
