■What is Judo for visually impaired people?
Judo for the visually impaired is Judo performed by visually impaired people. Blind athletes are divided into two classes, “J1” and athletes with low vision are “J2,” and men and women compete in their respective weight classes.
There is no major difference from sighted judo except that you start from a crossed position. Since there is no battle between grappling hands, the deciding factor in the match is how to break the opponent from a grappled state, and this is a four-minute match that you can’t take your eyes off of for a moment. There are more techniques than in sighted judo, and the highlight is the dynamic exchange of techniques. ■Tournament overview
