Pozhdayeva Anna, director of Japan’s first non-profit organization for Ukrainian evacuees, will travel across the country to raise funds for holding a caravan to convey the preciousness of peace. Anna, a director of the Multicultural Human Resources Support Center (Saga City, Representative Director: Kenzo Yamaji), holds a caravan in various locations that includes Ukrainian cooking classes and talks about Ukraine. We are collecting donations until the end of January 2024, with a goal of 1 million yen, including transportation and material costs for the event. ■The war that changed families overnight
Anna was living in the capital, Kiiv, on February 24, 2022, when the invasion of Ukraine began. As introduced on the special crowdfunding website, Anna looks back on those days as follows:
“On February 24, 2022, I was in the capital Kiv when the war broke out. I was running my own beauty salon business. But on the morning of the 24th, I suddenly heard a loud noise and was really surprised. .I thought I was dreaming.
From that day on, our family’s life changed forever.
The building that houses the beauty salon is about a 15-minute walk from my home. A missile flew into that building on the 26th. We were not in the store at the time, and the store in the basement was flooded with water due to a broken water pipe, making it difficult to operate. I realized that my life would be in danger if I stayed in Ukraine like this. ”

■From guest to host
Anna’s family applied to a program in Saga Prefecture, which accepted refugees through public-private partnerships. Anna and her two daughters entered Japan in November last year, and her husband, who has a visual impairment, entered Japan in April of this year. . As a family, we are aiming for a long-term resettlement, and “we want to support Ukrainians who live with us in Japan,” and “guests (those who receive support as evacuees)” say, “hosts (those who support evacuees) ” I am trying to change my perspective.
“The caravan was the first time that Anna planned this event as a board member. Why did she plan such an event? Anna answered in an interview as follows.
With the help of Japanese people, our family was able to escape to Japan and save our lives. I am truly grateful to the Japanese people. I thought there was something I could do to repay the Japanese people. I can speak a little Japanese. I also like cooking. I am a qualified cosmetologist. Therefore, as a way of giving back to the Japanese people, I wanted to convey the message that we must take care of our country and family. I would like to tell you about the war that I experienced while cooking with you and showing you the beauty of Ukraine. ”

We are also preparing a return for those who donate. For example, Anna has the right to have her name printed on the uniform she wears when traveling around the country (10,000 yen on the back, 30,000 yen on the front), and the right to have a message written on the apron. My recommendation is “The right to be Anna’s assistant.” At the destinations you visit with your caravan, you will learn how to buy ingredients and season them up close, and learn how to make Ukrainian cuisine. In addition, for those who donate 100,000 yen, we will hold a caravan in your home town, school, company, organization, government agency, etc. We would be happy if schools and organizations could collect donations!

To commemorate the start of crowdfunding on December 1st, we are planning various events. We are planning a variety of events, including ones that you can participate in online and ones that actually hold Ukrainian cooking classes.

Anna would like to talk about her passion for the national caravan “National Anna!” and future support for Ukraine. Also, this day is Yamaji’s birthday. ◎Charity Ukraine Christmas Cooking Class @Tokyo

On December 18th, a charity event titled “Let’s make Ukrainian Christmas food” was held in Koto Ward, Tokyo. We will actually cook Ukrainian food together with Anna. We are also planning an event where you can listen to stories about Ukrainian Christmas customs and Anna’s life in Ukraine while you eat.
