Jointly developed a gait analysis system using AI musculoskeletal analysis technology from Stanford University. walkey Co., Ltd. First in Japan. Utilizing OpenCAP, a skeletal motion analysis technology developed by Stanford University as an open source, we jointly developed functions specialized for gait analysis and utilized them for gait training guidance.
……
walkey Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Meguro-ku, Tokyo; President: Tatsuya Watanabe) has developed Japan’s first walking motion analysis system using OpenCap, a skeletal motion analysis technology developed by Stanford University.
Walking training walkey has developed a system to evaluate walking movement function through analysis using videos taken with a smartphone, as a new attempt at an analysis method for walking movement function. For the first time in Japan, we have entered into a business partnership with Model Health, a venture company founded by Stanford University, to commercially utilize OpenCAP, a skeletal motion analysis technology developed by Stanford University, and have begun demonstration testing on Friday, December 1st.

Gait analysis system starting demonstration test
In the newly developed gait analysis system, AI automatically extracts one cycle of walking from videos taken with two smartphones and performs analysis. You can freely check the pelvis shake from the angle change of each joint in a graph while linking it with the captured video and skeletal model.
In addition, target values were set for items that are commonly used as indicators of walking motor function, such as 1. Walking speed, 2. Time of contact between both feet, 3. Step length, 4. Step interval, 5. Step length, and 6. Lateral difference. It can be displayed together with past measurement results, so even non-experts can easily check the improved walking ability due to the effects of exercise. Walkey is promoting various basic research including the development of this system. We aim to expand the range of applications through collaboration between industry, academia, and medicine and
engineering.

Comments from Model Health, a venture from Stanford University Model Health is excited to collaborate with walkey, as they embark on their mission to improve the quality of life for the elderly population, by providing them with technology to quantify how people walk. Walking is an important activity of daily living and is key to maintaining independence. We hope that by using our technology, walkey will be able to identify walking deficiencies and intervene to enhance the well-being of the elderly.

About OpenCAP and Model Health
OpenCAP is a motion capture technology that is being developed as an open source by a team led by Stanford University Professor Scott Delp. It uses only two smartphones and an A4-printed calibration sheet to accurately capture 3D spatial coordinate data through AI image analysis. Because it can be obtained, it is used in motion analysis in a wide range of research fields around the world.

About walking training walkey
walkey is a walking training service that aims to give you a body that allows you to walk the way you want forever in the era of 100-year lifespans. Trainers who are gait experts analyze and understand gait movement function more accurately under the supervision of a full-time physical therapist, and continuously evaluate the training results of each user to improve the condition of each user. We provide training programs tailored to your needs. By practicing training at home using specialized equipment and apps, and regularly checking the results in the lab, we support effective body building that anyone can continue to do.
