Asterisk and Jidoken have been operating Kogane Seimen Kusatsu Ritto store since September 25, 2023 as a demonstration store for an unprecedented self-service store DX. After much thought and error from the time of opening, we were able to stabilize the technology to the point where full-scale operation was possible. Furthermore, as a final step, we developed and introduced a “facial payment app” and operated store DX with Asterisk’s effortless self-checkout system. This not only allows you to automatically obtain information on udon orders and tempura, etc. using image recognition and weight sensor technology, but also allows you to make payments using facial recognition at stores by registering your face and credit information in the app. This enables the convenience of users to pay hands-free payments, and the benefits of reducing the cost of staff involved in cash registers for store management.
System overview of the revolutionary initiative “Kogane Seimen” In addition to Asterisk’s original research into “person tracking (image recognition) cash register technology (Patent No. 7262715)” and “facial recognition identification system technology (Patent No. 7320887),” Kogane Seimen has developed new technologies. This is a first-of-its-kind self-service udon restaurant that combines patent-pending technologies such as weight sensor technology. We recognize images of customers who place orders and use AI to track them all the way through to payment. Along the way, the system uses weight sensors, AI, and image recognition to determine whether to order additional side dishes such as tempura, making it an innovative system that allows customers to pay by simply proceeding to the register.

Multiple cameras are installed on the ceiling to track people. Since only the location of the person is determined, tracking can continue even if the person puts on or removes a mask or hat. At Kogane Seimen, we have created a fully self-service system from ordering to checkout by linking and tracking order information to the person in the area from the first order display to the final payment. In addition, a warning light will notify you if you leave the area without paying. 2. No manual confirmation required! System management of side menu orders using weight sensors!
A weight sensor with an IP address measures changes in the weight of side menu items such as “tempura” and “fried chicken.” By linking with image recognition, it is possible to automatically understand which customer has selected which side menu.
3. Easy-to-operate self-checkout! You can now pay for ordered products by touching the screen!
Once the order has been confirmed, the customer will be tracked using the “Person Tracking System” and the data will be automatically transferred to the selected self-checkout. As a result, customers can proceed to any of the multiple cash registers and make payments freely, such as by cash, credit card, or QR payment. Additionally, it can be used not only as a self-checkout, but also as a face-to-face checkout in case of urgent needs such as returns, making it easy to operate.

By linking information registered in the store app in advance with facial recognition, this system allows you to make credit card payments, use coupons, give stamps, etc. just by facial recognition. This not only enables hands-free payments, but also prevents unauthorized use of the app by third parties by managing personal information using unique information such as facial recognition.
