Asbashi, a general incorporated association that promotes career education such as internships for high school students, has begun recruiting participants for its IT industry apprenticeship program for high school students. This is Japan’s first apprenticeship for high school students in the IT industry (according to our research). This program has the potential to solve the problem of current high school students choosing their career paths, as well as the academic background and social issues surrounding high school and university graduates.
● What is an apprenticeship?
Apprentice means “trainee”. Apprenticeships are a career option that allows people to work and earn money, acquire skills and experience, and build their own careers.It has become popular in the UK due to the government’s promotion, and has been around for some time. It has spread not only to fields such as manufacturing and construction, but also to new fields such as digital technology and creative industries, and even professionals such as doctors and lawyers are now able to obtain qualifications and find jobs through apprenticeships. Based on precedent cases in the UK, we have researched the ideal form of apprenticeship that is suitable for the Japanese education system, and our organization is developing this “apprenticeship” as an apprenticeship that can be started by high school students in the IT industry in Aichi Prefecture. We are recruiting as part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s FY2020 “Future Classroom” demonstration project.

● How can high school students become apprentices?
