Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) (Secretariat: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Kiyoshi Kurokawa) and SPRING GX, the University of Tokyo, will participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. (COP28), we conducted an online survey of Japanese doctors using self-administered questionnaires to collect their opinions on climate change and health, sustainable medical systems, and climate change policies. The survey was conducted from November 21 to 27, 2023, and received responses from 1,100 doctors engaged in medical practice across Japan.

Main findings
Many doctors do not have sufficient knowledge about climate change (36.1% answered more than half correctly), and the term “planetary health” is not widely known (18.2%).
Many doctors feel the impact of climate change on the health of Japanese people, and they also see the health impact on their own patients.
