◆Summary The final judging of the “Okayama Innovation Contest 2023″, which competes for excellent business plans and practical examples, was held on November 25, 2023 at Okayama Symphony Hall (Okayama City), and Airi Tanai, a 6th year student at the Faculty of Dentistry at our university, Pharmacist Takayoshi Kawabata of the Okayama University Hospital Pharmacy Department won the Grand Prize and Grand Prix in the Business Plan Category/University and Vocational School Student Category, and the Grand Prize in the Business Plan Category/General Category.
Ms. Tanai proposed “Oral Insight Service,” a platform that organically connects elderly people who are concerned about their oral health with female dentists who are forced to leave their jobs for various reasons. As a result, elderly people can easily consult online about oral and dental health conditions, and female dentists can receive consultations from elderly people regardless of location and time while giving birth or raising children, and respond as necessary. He appealed that it would also be possible to provide home-visit dental treatment. The company was selected as the Grand Prix winner for its business plan that effectively brings out the power of female dentists, which is currently underutilized, and at the same time provides a sustainable future that protects the health of the elderly. Upon receiving the award, Mr. Tanai said, “The moment I heard the announcement of the award was like a dream.I feel deeply touched that so many people supported this business plan and had great expectations for its realization. It was just a plan. We will continue to take action to make this a reality without stopping there.I would like to thank everyone involved at Okayama Innovation School, my classmates, and everyone else who has supported us.”

Pharmacist Kawabata won the Grand Prize
Pharmacist Kawabata also focused on the fact that when a disaster occurs, there is a need to quickly get an overall picture of the medicines available at that time, but there is currently no way to do so. We have developed a medicine management application that works offline. By using this application, it is possible to create a pharmaceutical inventory management and prescription environment similar to that in normal times during a disaster, allowing dispatched medical personnel to fully demonstrate their professional abilities, and facilitating the smooth provision of disaster medical care to disaster victims. I suggested what I could contribute.
Upon receiving the award, Pharmacist Kawabata said, “The content of this proposal was born out of our experience in the Western Japan heavy rain disaster in Okayama Prefecture. We were very happy to receive the grand prize after presenting our solutions to the issues faced by medical professionals.” Using this experience as
inspiration, we will aim to implement applications in society in the future. Thank you for your continued support.”
The contest was held as part of the “Okayama Innovation Project,” which aims to foster entrepreneurs in the Okayama and Bingo regions. This year, the 7th year of the contest, there were 113 applications, and 18 teams made it through a rigorous screening process to make it to the final round. Please look forward to Okayama University’s continued co-development and co-creation as a regional core and distinctive research university, including Mr. Tanai and Kawabata. [Image 4
