Developing a business model using aquatic plants
……
Sunwespa Co., Ltd. (location: Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture,
Representative Director: Arimasa Hara, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”) will be exhibiting at EcoPro 2023, which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight from December 6th to 8th, 2023.
Our company is a used paper collection business based in Gifu Prefecture. With the business concept of “redefining what is unused and worthless,” in 2016 we started a demonstration project to produce bioethanol from shredder dust from used paper that is difficult to recycle. In 2017, we were selected by JICA and have been conducting research to produce ethanol from the aquatic plants that cover Cambodian lakes.
Initially, the plan was to use ethanol derived from aquatic plants as fuel. However, through research, we came to the conclusion that it would be difficult to make a profit from it as a fuel. Therefore, in order to make our business sustainable, we focused on turning ethanol into high-value-added “craft gin” and decided to manufacture it in Cambodia. At the same time, we launched the brand [MAWSIM] and started sales in Japan from 2022.
Currently, in addition to the MAWSIM project, we are looking to solve aquatic plant problems by building a new ecosystem in Japan as a specialist in exotic aquatic plants.
At the venue, our company, which is a specialist in exotic aquatic plants, will explain the current situation and prospects for “balancing solutions to environmental issues and development of high-value-added products.” Please visit our booth.
