Tsunan Jozo Co., Ltd. (Tsunan Town, Nakauonuma District, Niigata Prefecture) announced that at the 70th Tsunan Jozo Co., Ltd. General Meeting of Shareholders held on December 3, 2023, Kengo Suzuki, Executive Officer and CTO of Euglena Co., Ltd. We have decided to appoint him as representative director and change the personnel of officers.

Tsunan Brewing Co., Ltd. is a company based in Niigata prefecture, and established three years ago with the aim of “Brew for Future ~ Brewing a future where we coexist,” and the local environment and sake brewing activities will coexist 100 years from now. We have been developing our business with Atsushi Kabasawa of FARM8 Co., Ltd. as our representative.
As the sake market undergoes rapid changes due to the coronavirus pandemic, over the past three years, we have actively introduced digital transformation (DX) such as data management using IT at our sake brewery in order to respond to the more detailed needs of our customers. We have achieved this goal.
The new brands “GO” and “Tsunan” series, which were launched for online sales only in early 2020, are doing well, and Kengo Suzuki, who has a rich background of experience including research and development of commercialization of microorganisms and founding companies, has been selected. By welcoming him as a representative, we aim to further develop our business and strengthen our global expansion.

My name is Kengo Suzuki and I have been appointed as the new representative director of Tsunan Jozo. I have accumulated knowledge through business development at a company that researches and produces microorganisms and at various academic research institutions. Utilizing this experience, we would like to create new value by combining Tsunan Brewing’s sake brewing and science.
In the production of alcoholic beverages, we aim to use
environmentally friendly and sustainable methods to create products that we can be proud of around the world. Specifically, we aim to minimize the environmental impact at each stage of the production process, while simultaneously improving the quality and
characteristics of our products and increasing our competitiveness in the global market.

In recent years, social issues such as the declining birthrate and aging population have become more apparent in Japan, and changes in the social structure are expected to accelerate due to the spread of generative AI at a practical level. The best way to respond to these uncertain times is to make intuitive decisions about things that cannot be measured, and that go beyond logic. Henry Mintzberg, a professor at McGill University in Canada, argues that management is a mixture of “art,” “science,” and “craft.” Our company will also clarify our approach to each of these items, establish a management system, and move forward with the aim of producing sake that can respond to the new era.
