First in Japan! Re-commerce project “STAUB 2nd Life”
In September 2023, the French cast iron enamel pot brand “STAUB”, which opened the first online official reuse store “STAUB 2nd Life” as a cookware manufacturer in Japan, will open from December 4th (Monday). We will start a product pick-up service.
The company is a brand operated by the major German cookware manufacturer Zwilling J.A. Henckels Japan Co., Ltd., and has many enthusiastic fans in Japan.
The official reuse store has been very well received by customers as an opportunity to easily purchase enameled pots that have been used for generations for a long time at a reuse price that is 40 to 60% off the suggested retail price depending on the condition of the product. It is also attracting attention from the re-commerce industry. We have started the product pick-up service “Reward Program”! The official reuse store is part of the company’s re-commerce project “STAUB 2nd Life”, and as the second step of the project, we will start the “Reward Program”, a collection service for Staub products. We will collect, clean, and appraise Picos and Cocottes that have been used by users and are lying dormant at home, and then sell them on the “STAUB 2nd Life” e-commerce site. The collected cocottes can be exchanged for 8,000 yen worth of coupons that can be used at the official online shop. You can purchase other Staub products as well as knives and kitchen goods from the Zwilling Group. We do not care about the used condition of the products we collect, even if they still have burnt marks. We will create opportunities for people who have been using our useful cooking utensils for a long time to discover new products. In addition, each cocotte we collect will be carefully cleaned one by one and sold one after another at the official reuse store “STAUB 2nd Life”. (We cannot accept items that cannot be restored to a usable condition, such as handles that are missing, enamel that is severely chipped or peeled, etc.) In the future, we plan to expand the lineup depending on the collection status from customers.

Staub is a cookware manufacturer that was founded in 1974 in the Alsace region of northeastern France, and was initially developed for professionals and is a brand used in many restaurants. Currently, it is exported to more than 50 countries around the world and is widely used in ordinary households. The manufacturing process uses
traditional craftsmanship, and each piece is finished by the hands of skilled craftsmen, which is why its high quality is admired all over the world, but production quantities are limited. Additionally, while many customers have been using our products for many years, we have heard from some customers that they no longer have the opportunity to use them due to changes in age or lifestyle. Therefore, we have started an initiative to prolong the product life and allow more people to enjoy Staub by collecting and reselling products that are no longer in use. *First domestic product delivery from a cookware manufacturer: September 1, 2023, researched by Free Standard Co., Ltd. Through this initiative, we want to change the idea of “basically throwing away things we no longer use” to “if we no longer use them, we hand them over to someone else who wants them.” We want to make this virtuous cycle the norm. . Staub is not a cheap product. With the option of reusing products, we hope that not only will it be used by people who previously wanted to try it but couldn’t make a decision due to price, but it will also open up a new customer base for the brand.

As brand-led recommerce is starting to become the standard around the world, we are very pleased to be able to officially launch user trade-in with Staub. The value of official brand recommerce is that by extending the lifespan of items, it becomes possible to realize circular consumption that takes into account limited environmental resources. By implementing “trade-in”, which plays a major role in circular consumption, it is possible to build long-term relationships with existing users and create encounters with new items. We would like to take over items that are filled with the various thoughts of our users, perform maintenance according to the manufacturer’s standards, and make it a common practice to connect them with new users.
