[About Smart Eye Camera (SEC)] OUI Inc. is a team of professionals in medicine, engineering, and business working together with the philosophy of “reducing blindness around the world by 50% and protecting people’s health through their eyes.” This is a venture company originating from Keio University School of Medicine. We developed SEC from scratch, an iPhone attachment type medical device that enables ophthalmological examinations. This is the first ophthalmic medical device in Japan that uses an iPhone camera and light source, and the results of animal experiments and clinical research using human eyes have proven that it has the same performance as existing slit lamp microscopes. It has been. Cataracts are the number one cause of blindness in the world. Although there is a high possibility that cataracts will not lead to blindness if treated at the appropriate time, blindness due to cataracts has become a social problem in developing countries. SEC is a small medical device that can be attached to an iPhone, making it possible to perform eye examinations anywhere, including areas without electricity or disaster-stricken areas.

[Regarding medical device registration in Brazil] Through SEC, OUI Inc. aims to deliver appropriate diagnosis to patients who have traditionally been unable to receive ophthalmological care, and to overcome preventable blindness and visual impairment around the world. We are working towards this goal. To date, we have conducted various pilot demonstrations in more than 30 countries around the world, including Asia, Africa, and Latin America, in cooperation with local ophthalmologists, NGOs, medical institutions, and international organizations.
In Brazil, starting in 2021, with support from the Silver Economy program implemented by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), we will collaborate with local medical NGOs to provide remote eye care to indigenous people living in the Amazon region. We are working on building a diagnostic model.
Smart Eye Camera was registered as a medical device in Japan in June 2019, Europe in June 2021, Kenya in October 2021, Cambodia in June 2023, and Indonesia in November 2023. This is the next step in registering medical devices overseas. Going forward, we will strengthen our collaboration with ophthalmologists and medical institutions in Brazil in earnest and strive to solve local
ophthalmological medical issues.
