Newond, Inc. (Headquarters: Wilmington, Delaware; Representative: Junna Koiso; hereinafter referred to as Newond), a US startup that supports back office operations during layoffs, has announced that it has acquired Yazawa Ventures, Coconara Skill Partners, and individual investors. We are pleased to announce that we have raised
approximately 38 million yen in capital through third-party allotment. Newond will use the funds raised through this third-party allotment to develop customers in the United States, where layoff volumes are particularly high in the tech field.
“Newond” supports back office operations during layoffs
Newond, which supports back-office operations during layoffs, handles tasks and schedules depending on the size of the company’s layoff, the creation of contracts tailored to each state and country, and re-employment support for laid-off employees. I will do it. In the past, when companies carried out layoffs, they either handled it manually internally or outsourced it to an outside company at a high outsourcing fee. However, by using Newond, it is possible to reduce costs, time, and human risks.

Layoffs that are forced to occur depending on a company’s business conditions are painful for both the company and its employees. Newond takes on the challenge of this extremely difficult area. Focusing on reducing tasks, costs, and risks for companies involved in layoffs, and supporting reemployment for employees, he is striving to improve the process of companies dealing with things they don’t want to do. I hope that under the strong leadership of CEO Koiso, we will redefine work styles and employment and create a world where people can try again and again.

Although layoffs are common in the United States, there are many points that trouble the person in charge, such as differences in laws depending on size and state, and compliance regarding race and gender ratio, and the operation has not been structured. This is the reality of layoffs. We noticed this market and wanted to support the unique challenge of a female engineer who moved to the United States alone to create products, so we decided to invest. As a CSP, I look forward to supporting their future growth.

When I heard that a Japanese startup was taking on the challenge of layoffs, one of the most stressful and tough areas in human resources, in the United States, I was honestly surprised as I imagined how difficult and demanding it would be. However, because it is a tough field, the pain is great, and because of the background of Japanese society, which is harsh on layoffs, I think we can create services that can create new value. I would like to support Newond in its big challenge, so I decided to participate as an investor.

I have known them since I was running an XR business in Japan, and when I was approached about a new business, I decided to invest in people first rather than business. I myself was born in Japan and am taking on the challenge of taking on the world, but I support her challenge as a fellow comrade.

I had the opportunity to communicate with Ms. Koiso several times when I was in Japan, and each time I was exposed to her enthusiastic presentations and progress reports, and I felt her strong
determination and passion. I have supported several entrepreneurs in the United States, but I have never met a more enthusiastic
entrepreneur. I felt that her enthusiasm had the power to draw in the team and investors. Also, why did we choose the seemingly difficult business field of layoffs in the United States? There is a possibility that we can seize the opportunity here by providing SaaS services for retirement care and insurance payment operations, which is an advanced approach in Japan. I feel that there is. I would like to send my heartfelt cheers to Mr. Koiso, who is cutting into the global layoff market from Japan. I believe in and look forward to Newond’s success. AtoJ Co., Ltd.

Never stop challenging the world. Mr. Koiso is a tireless challenger. His passionate thoughts about the world, expressed in his crisp Kansai dialect typical of Osaka people, stir the excitement in those around him. Once I decide to do something, I will do it to the fullest. Without getting bogged down in small things, we will continue to move forward while involving a variety of people with our ability to honestly deliver new value to society. I am looking forward to the future of Newond, which will provide services to the American layoff market from a new perspective. I will continue to support you with all my might.

Last year and this year, there was a lot of news about layoffs in the US. Our company is also starting a business in the HR field, and when we heard Mr. Koiso’s idea, we empathized with the depth of the issue and decided to invest in this round. The layoffs and HR market in the US are not easy, but I think Mr. Koiso’s guts and stamina will help him overcome this. I would also like to work hard as an entrepreneur taking on the challenge in the US.

We are delighted to be able to invest in Newond as an angel investor. There are three main reasons for the investment. First, in the business field, we saw great potential in digitizing all layoff procedures and providing thorough post-layoff support. Next, we felt that the American market would be a worthwhile challenge, and we had high hopes for the possibility of expanding outside the United States in the future. Finally, I was moved by the representative’s
determination as a female entrepreneur and the challenge she faced in the United States, and I felt that there was a need for role models for female entrepreneurs in Japan, so I decided to genuinely support and invest in her. I understand that the challenge in the United States will not be easy, but I hope that you will take on the challenge while enjoying the entire process. We look forward to future growth and business expansion.

The reason I started working on this business was the layoff movement that occurred in 2022.
At the time, I was running MatchXRs, a recruitment matching platform specializing in the VR and AR industry at a Japanese corporation, but due to the economic downturn in the US, I was hired by VR and AR related companies such as Meta and TikTok. We received many inquiries about employment from people who were being laid off. I saw that even seniors and graduates of famous universities had difficulty finding new jobs, and I felt that there were issues with the layoff system itself, so I decided to start working at Newond.
In addition to pandemics, wars, recessions, etc., as well as employment and work styles becoming more diverse, I believe that not only joining, but also leaving the company needs to become more fluid. We are a company that supports layoff operations, but our ultimate goal is to “This is a world where there will be no layoffs, or where layoffs can be viewed positively as an opportunity.”
To achieve this, the first step is to reduce the work and mental burden associated with layoffs, create an environment where those involved can focus on higher-priority tasks, and the next step is to create a system that eliminates layoffs in the first place. We will continue to work on it.
