Okumura Gumi Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Abeno-ku, Osaka, President and CEO: Takanori Okumura) is constructing a new employee dormitory (an 8-story building located in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture) as part of its ESG/SDGs initiatives. , 60 rooms) will have a wooden hybrid structure (a mix of wooden and reinforced concrete structures), and construction began on November 1, 2023.
The 3rd to 8th floors of the building will be constructed of wood, and it is planned to use approximately 250m3 of wood, and the amount of carbon storage (CO2 fixed amount) due to the use of wood is expected to be approximately 170t*1.
Additionally, this building has been selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s “Reiwa 5 Excellent Wooden Building Maintenance Promotion Project*2”.

Overall structure of the building
As the construction site of this building is located in a predicted flooding area according to the Arakawa Flood Hazard Map, a wooden hybrid structure was adopted, with the 1st and 2nd floors made of reinforced concrete, and the 3rd to 8th floors made of wood (partially made of reinforced concrete). In addition, the building has an intermediate floor seismic isolation structure with a seismic isolation layer between the first and second floors.
For medium-rise or higher-rise wooden buildings over 10 meters in height, ensuring the strength of the building in the horizontal direction in the event of an earthquake is an issue, so this building has a wooden hybrid structure (partially RC construction) and a seismic isolation structure. adopted to reduce the horizontal force borne by the wooden frame. In addition, RC construction is used for the slabs, etc., to ensure the sound insulation of the floor and to prevent wind vibration.
