NEC Solution Innovators participated in the “PWSCUP 2023” contest for anonymous processing technology for personal data at the Computer Security Symposium 2023 (CSS2023) held from October 30 to November 2, and won first place overall in the anonymous processing category and an excellent presentation. I won an award.

“PWSCUP 2023” is a contest where participants take on the roles of processors and attackers and compete in techniques for data processing (anonymization) and attacks on processed data (attribute estimation attacks). Nowadays, the need to utilize big data is rapidly
increasing, and there is a strong demand for technology that allows for both effective data utilization and privacy protection. This contest, in which engineers who are active on the front lines compete against each other, was held for the 9th time this year, and 15 teams from Japan and overseas participated. Sponsored by the Information Processing Society of Japan and sponsored by the Personal Information Protection Committee, awards are determined after a rigorous screening process.
The evaluation of our award is as follows.
●Anonymous processing category overall 1st place
Regarding the anonymous processing technology of personal data, there is no method that can accommodate all purposes of use. Anonymization methods must be considered, taking into account the purpose of using the processed data.
For this reason, we first analyzed 18 columns of original data consisting of public data and confidential data to understand its characteristics and identify the risks of re-identification when processed using common methods. In order to avoid this risk, we have implemented a program that guides the target of an attribute estimation attack to the record of the wrong person, and further processes the secret data of the target, making the attack more difficult and improving security. implementing this technology in society.
