[International College for Children and Welfare] Aim to become a kind childcare worker/educator by communicating in easy Japanese using the “Law of Scissors”
……
The NSG Group’s International College for Children and Welfare offers a course on “Child and Family Welfare” that is taken by first-year students in the Department of Child Care, Child Welfare Education, and Child Education who aim to become childcare workers, kindergarten teachers, elementary school teachers, and school nurses. As part of the class, we invited Mr. Akira Yoshikai, representative director of the General Incorporated Foundation for the Promotion of Easy Japanese, to be a guest speaker and gave a lecture titled “Easy Japanese for a Easy World.” .
Easy Japanese is Japanese expressions designed for people who have some difficulty understanding or communicating in Japanese, such as foreigners whose native language is not Japanese. In the lecture, the “Hasami Rule” was introduced as a keyword for easy Japanese. [Image 1
The “scissors rule” is a way to communicate things more easily by being conscious of “speak clearly, say the last thing, and say it modestly” when communicating something to the other person. The students carefully read the example sentences provided and learned how to use the “scissors rule” to rephrase them into Japanese that would be easier to understand to a large number of people.
In the latter half of the lecture, the students were divided into groups of four and took on the challenge of “3-sentence cooking,” a training exercise in which they practiced “saying” the words presented to them, and “explaining” them in the form of a fun quiz. For example, “Please explain Open Campus in the form of “○○ desu.” or “○○ masu.”. “In response to the question, “1. Third-year high school students will participate. 2. We will go to universities and vocational schools to listen to explanations about the school. 3. It will be held on Saturdays and Sundays.” Explain in three sentences. Each group thought of three sentences that were easy to understand and presented them, such as “.”
Faculty member Michiyo Kondo said, “This was a valuable experience for the students, as it helped them become aware of how to communicate in a kind manner and in a way that is tailored to each person when interacting with parents and children with foreign roots that they will meet in the future.” talk.
Participating students said, “I had a fixed idea that I had to use English to communicate with foreigners, but I learned that if I put some effort into it, I could communicate in Japanese.I will continue to be interested in simple Japanese.” “I would like to use it not only for foreigners, but also for the elderly and people with disabilities, depending on the situation,” he said.
