GMO Pepabo, Inc. [What is “Image Archive Lab”]

“Image Archive Lab” is an art image licensing service provided by DNP and DNP Art Communications that supports the creative activities of creators by providing a variety of art images. Creators who purchase image licenses will be issued a certificate using blockchain technology, so they can safely create and sell new works using image data.
[Background of the start of art image licensing service]
The domestic market size of the creator-centered economic zone (creator economy) in 2022 is estimated to be approximately 1,655.2 billion yen, an increase of 21.9% (*2) from 1,357.4 billion yen in 2021. , and is expected to continue to grow. Among these, an individual creator creates new content using a third party’s copyrighted work as a material (“derivative creation”), and another individual creator creates another content using the derivative work as a material (“nth creation”). ”) is believed to greatly contribute to the expansion of the content market.
On the other hand, obtaining permission for rights to copyrighted works requires complicated procedures and transaction costs are high, creating an obstacle for individual creators to publish and sell their “nth creations,” resulting in lost opportunities. The potential market is estimated to be 1.4 trillion yen (*3).
In order to address this issue, the DNP Group has expanded the scope of its art image licensing service (*4), which has been primarily aimed at corporations, to include individual creators, creating an environment where they can safely engage in derivative creations. We have conducted demonstration experiments to do so. As a result, we confirmed that there was demand for paid image licenses and
certificate sales, so we decided to start offering this service as an official service.

■Provision of image licenses mainly for individual creators
In collaboration with “minne by GMO Pepabo” (URL: https://minne.com/), Japan’s largest (*5) handmade market operated by GMO Pepabo, we have created an “Image Archive” for minne artists and brands. Through “Lab”, we provide art images for creation. minne artists and brands can use the purchased image licenses to create works and sell them on “minne by GMO Pepabo.” License fees for minne artists and brands are set according to the selling price of the handmade work. At present, sales of works using art images provided by “Image Archive Lab” are only possible at “minne by GMO Pepabo”.
