NIJIN Academy, an online school for elementary and junior high school students run by NIJIN Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Tatsuro Hoshino), which makes schools all over Japan happy, will be hosting Akifumi Hata as a special lecturer on December 4th. We had a special sign language class with the teacher, Yuriko Morimoto.
At NIJIN Academy, Japan’s top teachers conduct classes every day that teach the joy of learning.
In this special class, Mr. Moriyama, an interpreter, teaches the children the sign language of Mr. Hata, who is deaf and cannot hear. More than 50 students participated and learned about the world without sound.

[Purpose of special class]
By having the experience of interacting with deaf people, you will deepen your understanding correctly. While thinking about how to interact with deaf people, we will foster a spirit of coexistence with them.
【Course content】
1. Learn about the world without sound
In the first half of the class, we learned what a world without sound would be like and how to have a conversation.
I was thinking about how to communicate by talking about using not only sign language but also spoken language, letters, and gestures. There were also talks about the lives of deaf people, such as how they spend their time and what problems they face. I learned what is important and what I need to be aware of when communicating with deaf people.
2. Sign language experience
In the second half of the lesson, the children actually experienced sign language. I learned visually and thought about what colors, numbers, gender, etc. represent. There was also a scene where the representative children exchanged information such as their age and favorite color in sign language.
