What is “Social X Acceleration”?
As the government’s strong policy states, “We will position initiatives aimed at resolving social issues as a source of added value, and achieve both problem solving and economic growth at the same time,” companies should rely on traditional financial returns. Instead, we are also required to create social impact.
In addition, the global business environment has undergone major changes, and even startups are required to solve social issues at the same time as providing financial returns. In Europe, investors’ interest in social impact is increasing, with impact investing accounting for 18% of VC investments.
In order to develop a business with social impact (strategic return) in mind, it is important to involve local governments, which are at the forefront of social issues. Startups that pass the preliminary round will be supported in brushing up their business through workshops and mentoring by co-creative personnel, and will be arranged for discussions with local governments. The winning and runner-up startups will be provided with public-private co-creation matching services, PoC with local governments, and accompanying support. In addition, we will support the calculation of the social impact of the business for three startups: the winner, the runner-up, and the special jury award. By visualizing social impact, it becomes easier to explain to investors who are looking for social impact (strategic return) in addition to financial return.

In this program, we have designed a scheme in which we conduct two screenings, a preliminary round and a final round, and provide more advanced support to those who pass each round. Regarding the screening system, a screening committee consisting of external experts and the secretariat (our company) will be established for both the preliminary round and the final round. As a screening criteria, we select startups with a certain degree of business feasibility as a major premise, and with consideration to factors related to strategic returns.

Purpose of Social X Acceleration
Through this acceleration program, we will foster entrepreneurs with a focus on social issues, improve the ability to make proposals to investors by imparting the perspective and way of thinking of “solving social issues” to startups that have already started their own businesses, and provide horizontal services.
