A new traditional craft is born by combining the skills of craftsmen passed down in Kyoto with the individuality and ideas of creators. Since 2020, Creama has been collaborating with Kyoto Prefecture to carry out various initiatives to digitally shift and expand sales channels for traditional crafts and local products. This fully supports online sales as a new sales channel for Kyoto’s traditional crafts, which have been severely affected by recent lifestyle changes and the coronavirus pandemic.
This is the fourth project, and for the first time, Kyoto’s
traditional craftsmen and Creema creators collaborate to create works. Traditional craftsmen from Kyoto, such as hand-painted Yuzen dyeing, Kyoto ware, Kiyomizu ware, and brocade, and Creema creators selected in the contest teamed up to develop products and come up with ideas for improvement, creating Kumiko work and miniature art panels. We have created traditional crafts that propose new “Kyoto things” such as hand-painted Yuzen dyed bag charms.
Introducing 5 newly created works for the first time! Sales start today exclusively at Creema, and will be exhibited and sold at HMJ Winter (2024)
The completed collaborative works will be sold online nationwide exclusively at Creema starting today, and will also be held at Tokyo Big Sight on Saturday, January 13th and Sunday, January 14th, 2024, one of Japan’s largest exhibitions. It will be exhibited and sold at the creator festival “Handmade in Japan Festival Winter (2024)” (HMJ). We deliver new masterpieces woven by creativity born from free ideas along with historical traditional crafts that have been passed down in Kyoto.
Creema will continue to utilize Creema’s platform foundation, communication power, know-how, and track record of relationships with local governments that it has cultivated over the years to deliver the wonderful traditional techniques and manufacturing culture from all over Japan to as many people as possible. We will continue to work on “regional co-creation.”

Creema is a multifaceted company centered on the handmade marketplace “Creema”, holding craft events both domestically and internationally, “Creema SPRINGS”, a crowdfunding service that supports the creative activities of creators, and “FANTIST”, a lesson video platform. We are developing a creator empowerment project to support creator
activities.
While developing these services, we realized that there are various issues related to manufacturing, and since 2016 we have been working with local governments and organizations across the country to expand sales channels for traditional crafts and local products, develop products, collaborate with industry and academia, and promote migration. We provide support, hold town revitalization events, and work to co-create local communities and solve social issues through manufacturing that only Creema can do.
