[Disability Welfare x Design Sozorakukou] Human rights awareness posters created in collaboration with welfare facilities will be displayed on transportation facilities in Tokyo.
……
Souzou Gakko, a disability welfare x design team run by Newmore Co., Ltd. (location: Hachioji City, Tokyo, CEO: Yoriko Miyajima), is a collaboration between Tokyo Human Rights Enlightenment Center, a public interest incorporated foundation, and The project was selected as a contract to produce posters for the purpose of spreading awareness about human rights issues.
Two welfare facilities were commissioned to create the original drawings, and Newmore completed the work by adding designs and copies. The theme is “That’s why we’re different,” with the message that we can coexist and work together because we have a diverse group of people.
The posters will be displayed on public transportation, schools, etc. in Tokyo, mainly during Human Rights Week from December 4th to 10th. Drawings drawn by welfare facility users were used in the design and adopted as human rights awareness posters.
“Souzo Rakuko” is a business that employs people with disabilities who attend welfare facilities as illustrators, and uses the
combination of drawings and designs to commercialize their work. Currently, we are partnering with seven welfare facilities across the country, producing designs to order and developing our own products. [Image 1

After a competition, the poster whose design and copy was created by Rakko Sozo was selected for the “Reiwa 5th Human Rights Awareness Poster” created by the Tokyo Metropolitan Human Rights Awareness Center, a public interest incorporated foundation.
The poster is based on Human Rights Day (December 10th), which was established by the United Nations to promote the idea of respecting human rights, and is part of Human Rights Week, which runs from December 4th to 10th, when various campaigns are held in various places. In addition to being posted on transportation facilities and educational institutions such as elementary and junior high schools in Tokyo, the posters will be posted not only during Human Rights Week but throughout the year.

[Full text of message]
That’s why it’s “different”.
I am with someone else,
Do you ever feel “different”?
Big people and small people.
A quick person and a slow person.
Favorite food, words spoken in bare colors.
No two people are exactly the same.
That’s why we
Let’s share things we don’t know, help each other with things we don’t know, You can share happy feelings.
“It’s different” because you are
There are things you can do.
Because “we are different,”
There are things we can do together.
Thoughts put into the poster
Regardless of age, I feel that there are many situations in which Japanese people today are subconsciously imbued with the pressure to conform to the need to be the same as those around them, which makes life difficult.
Even if we are “different from everyone else”, this is just one part of the countless factors that surround us, and no two people are exactly the same.
It’s natural that each person is different. On the one hand, I believe that the world would be a better place if everyone lived with this understanding, but on the other hand, I also understand the difficulty of creating a common understanding in the midst of a mixture of diverse values.
There are people who suffer because they think “I’m different from everyone else,” and people who think “that person is different from everyone else.”
I wanted to create a poster that would give people a chance to reconsider their thoughts and give them some encouragement.
The pictures featured in the poster were drawn by people with disabilities who attend welfare facilities. There are many people who have the ability to express wonderful, soothing pictures, and we worked together to create one visual.
We hope that the pictures will give you an opportunity to imagine what they are doing and think about the message.
[About illustrations]
The original artwork was produced by Work Center Makoto Club, a multi-functional office in Tachikawa City, Tokyo, and Fureai Plaza Aoba, a Type B employment support office in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture.
Users of both facilities used drawings of various creatures drawn over the course of two years, showing them enjoying their lives, helping each other and living together, sharing rice balls and carrying each other’s belongings. I expressed the situation.

[Comments from Makoto Club Supporter, Hinako Matsunaga, a
multi-functional office work center]
When working on illustrations, our users are excited and wondering, “What kind of product will it be?” and “Will people use my illustrations?” I would be happy if many people could look at the wonderful illustrations drawn by users along with the text on this poster and feel the individuality and warmth of each person. Collaborative team of disability welfare and design Sozo Rakuko Souzou Gakko is a business founded by Newmore Co., Ltd. in 2020 with the slogan “Together to create beyond boundaries.” With the mission of “designing collaboration that transcends all attributes and boundaries, shines light on individuals, and creates harmony in the space,” we collaborate with welfare facilities, welcome people with disabilities as illustrators, and work with people with disabilities as illustrators, rather than being targeted for support.
