A research presentation session for third-year students at Prefectural Ujiyamada Commercial High School was held in June 2023, with IX Holdings participating as an observer, and a proposal for “Plastic Fishing” was presented. Although we want the sea in Ise-Shima to continue to be rich and beautiful, we believe that it is difficult to get the younger generation interested in regular garbage-picking activities, so we decided to implement plastic fishing as a way to create a new opportunity. consideration has begun.

The Miyagawa River, a first-class river that flows into Ise Bay, is a treasure of Mie Prefecture and boasts the clearest stream in Japan, having been selected many times as a river with the best water quality by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. However, after learning that he had not been selected for the past two years in a row, in July 2023, he and high school students toured Misetani Dam Lake in Odai Town, which is located upstream of the Miyagawa River. When we actually collected trash such as plastic products, old spray cans, and sandals by SUP or canoe, we found that trash tends to accumulate in coves near dams.
Believing that this initiative will help protect the waters of Ise Bay, high school students planned a “Plastic Fishing Tournament” to raise the interest of as many people as possible and take the first step toward solving the problem. This event was made possible through the cooperation of local businesses and others who sympathized with our efforts. This time, we received the cooperation of students from Mie Prefectural Ujiyamada Commercial High School, who came up with the idea, and students from Mie Prefectural Subaru Gakuen High School, the only high school in Odai Town, where the venue, Misetani Dam, is located -Test Competition- We will carry out.
High school students from Odai Town in the upper reaches of the Miyagawa River, tourism associations and local businesses, high school students from Ise in the lower reaches, and companies such as IX Holdings participated in safe and fun plastic fishing activities while deepening their understanding of environmental conservation throughout the river basin. We hope to establish these rules in this test tournament and use them for future tournaments. In addition, regarding the utilization of the collected plastic waste, we plan to take on the challenge of developing products that will lead to awareness with the cooperation of REMARE Co., Ltd., which operates a marine plastic upcycling business.
