This year, Discord is adding global DM search, simplifying image and video sharing, reducing app open time by 43% on iOS and 55% on Android, and making more messages accessible when offline. , we have already implemented some of the most requested improvements. Recent updates also include voice messages and 25MB free file uploads on the mobile app.
This updated mobile version of the app offers an even better mobile experience with a fresh look, more ways to customize, and new features to help you chat and hangout with friends on the go. Ta.
Francesco Polizzi, Group Product Manager at Discord, said: “When we launched Discord’s mobile app in 2015, we focused on creating a great product for people who play games on their computers, and our mobile app was designed to serve as a companion for when you’re away from the keyboard. More users are now using Discord on the go, and we’re excited to bring you a faster, more reliable app than ever before, designed specifically for mobile. .”
tab
With customer feedback in mind, Discord has redesigned the way chats are organized to make the mobile app easier to use. Today’s design update keeps the vertical server navigation that Discord users are accustomed to, but separates servers and messages into separate tabs. When you launch the updated mobile app, there are new navigation tabs at the bottom. Specifically, servers and messages are now displayed in separate tabs. These help users access what matters most: the conversation.
As soon as you open the app (previously you had to slide the screen to see it), you can access your servers, messages, notifications, and the “You” tab.
Discord continues to improve its new “Servers” tab to make the mobile app experience more user-friendly and customizable. We also continue to focus on making it easier for mobile users to see what their friends on the server are doing, and make it easier to participate in and hang out with those activities.
message
All direct messages (DMs) and group direct messages (GDMs) are now displayed in the Messages tab. Mobile users can see what all their friends in a voice channel are up to, whether they’re playing a game or activity or listening to something on Spotify. You can also bookmark specific DMs and GDMs within the app, which will always be displayed at the top of the Messages tab.
We’ve also made it faster and easier to create GDMs, and instead of just long-pressing and replying to messages, you can now quickly swipe and reply to messages posted in chats.
This app update includes enhanced search capabilities, allowing users to search all messages, pins, files, attachments, and pinned messages directly from the search bar. Mobile users no longer need to individually search for specific pinned messages in each DM. Channel and GDM/DM details pages have been updated to help users find what they need in chat faster. Quickly see all members, shared images and videos, links, pins, and more in one place. You can use search to find something specific, or scroll through the media tabs to see past content.
notification
When something new happens, users can jump to the notifications tab and still get updates on all the times they’ve been @mentioned. In addition to @mentions, server events, friend request updates, and message replies also appear on this tab.
You can now take actions on all notifications: You can tap an @mention to go directly to where it was posted, or you can tap a notification to see if a new friend request has been accepted. Just tap to go directly to DM with that person. You can also tap the notification that a server event has started to jump directly to the server where the event is being held.
Notifications now also auto-dismiss as soon as they’re read, saving you the hassle of tapping to clear a tab.
you
The “You” tab, represented by the user’s profile icon, allows users to see how their profile appears to other users at any time. You can also change your profile and status, upload a new profile icon, access your account settings, find your friends list, and more. You can also double-tap the “You” tab icon at the bottom of the screen to quickly access your account settings.
The user settings page also has a search bar, so you can jump to specific settings at any time.
Other updates
Evolved Night Mode: By user request, Discord has introduced a new “Midnight” theme that is all black to save battery. The new Midnight theme is freely available to everyone, and your chat space will have a completely black background.
Better image and video sharing: Improvements to image and video sharing introduced earlier this year allow mobile users to select more photos and videos at once, even in high quality (up to 25MB). You can upload it. You can view them in a neatly organized grid, and if you add multiple images to your message, they’ll appear in a gallery format instead of embedding them at full size.
Updated audio & video UI: Discord has updated the UI for audio and video calls, making it a more welcoming space for friends to meet. Mobile users can now enjoy comfortable virtual calls with more intuitive controls on the go.
Faster load times: Earlier this year, Discord announced that it reduced the time it takes to open the app by 55% on Android and 43% on iOS. Now, when you move between channels and chats, your mobile app uses 4x less data on first load and caches your most recent messages in the background. When moving between conversations in servers or DMs, the mobile app saves the most recent messages in up to 700 text channels or DMs, allowing them to load faster as users move back and forth between communities. We’ve also updated the ability to scroll up and down channels to catch up on messages faster, allowing users to scroll faster.
As Discord continues to improve, users can expect even better mobile app experiences. Some of them are introduced below.
● Improved search filters
● Quick access to server member list
● More control over how lists and messages are displayed on the app ● Further improvements to app performance and stability so users can spend more time connecting with friends on the go.
