“Diversity Clarinet” purposely uses wood that is not used in the production process, which emphasizes uniformity. We created a unique clarinet by taking advantage of the diversity of natural wood, such as cracks, chips, and holes that occur during the wood’s growth process. “KINTSUGI” uses the traditional Japanese repair technique
“Kintsugi” to repair defects in wood and decorate it with gold. In addition, “SHIRATA”, “FUMOKU”, and “IRIKAWA” are one-of-a-kind products that bring out defects such as shirata, fumoku, and irikawa* as the diverse characteristics of the wood. It’s a clarinet. Through the production of the Diversity Clarinet, we are exploring ways to effectively utilize limited natural materials while
confronting the individuality of wood and making the most of its unique characteristics. At the same time, we are also conducting research aimed at making more effective use of resources by partially supplementing defective wood. Furthermore, we are also researching molded wood technology that uses wood chips and laminated wood that uses general-purpose wood, and are also working on the development of new materials to replace conventional solid wood. This exhibition will also introduce these efforts.
