Our company conserves biodiversity through activities to protect flora and fauna, including local plants such as Fujibakama and Ominaeshi, as well as southern killifish and Yamato ball beetle, centered around the biotope “Ikoi no Mori” that we have established within our Shizuoka factory. In 2019, we received the Japan Greenery Center Chairman’s Award.
Since then, we have proceeded with the installation of solar power generation and worked to reduce CO2 emissions, as well as accepting field trips from local elementary schools and visiting classes on the theme of SDGs, which have established the facility as a place for environmental education in the local community. With the cooperation of the local Fujieda City, we are working to further revitalize communication with the local community while actively incorporating new content, such as planning on-demand videos for elementary and junior high school classes.
We will continue to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by promoting further greening and conserving biodiversity, centering on the biotope “Ikoi no Mori.”

About the Shizuoka factory biotope “Ikoi no Mori”

A portion of the Shizuoka factory wastewater is treated with activated sludge to render it harmless, and then discharged into public waters (rivers) via a biotope. The biotope “Ikoi-no-Mori” includes the ancient lotus “Oga lotus”, the “Minami killifish” designated as an endangered species by Shizuoka Prefecture, the “Yamato tamamushi” with iridescent wings, the beautiful blue “Kingfisher”, and other plants. We are conserving an environment where a variety of plants and animals that have lived in the area since ancient times can grow and live, including the seven autumn herbs, “Ominaeshi”, “Fujibakama”, and “Dianthus”.

In addition, we are promoting the use of the biotope as a place for environmental education at local schools, accepting excursions, providing killifish, and having our employees visit schools to give lectures on environmental issues and SDGs. Through various activities such as seasonal observation sessions, we provide opportunities for people to become aware of their connection with living things and nature, and to feel the importance of biodiversity.
In addition, the biotope “Ikoi no Mori” was certified as a “Site in Harmony with Nature” by the Ministry of the Environment in October of this year. It is open to the public, so please come and visit us. (Advance reservation required)
