“Durability” came in first place.
The second and subsequent rankings were “resistance to stains and scratches” and “ease of cleaning,” followed by “price,” which came in 7th place.
1st place: Durability
・I want to use it for as long as possible, so I am very concerned about how durable it is. I don’t want to buy a product if it spoils quickly. (Male in his 40s)
・This is not something that can be easily changed, so you should consider this carefully. I would like to refer to reviews from people who have used the product as a basis for selection. (Female in her 40s)
– Tatami mats and floors are constantly covered with heavy objects and are stepped on by many people and animals, so if they become damaged quickly, it will be financially difficult. (Female in her 20s) 1st place was “durability”.
It’s not something that can be easily changed, and if you have children or pets, you’re even more concerned about durability. 2nd place: Dirt/scratch resistance
・Since I have a cat, I am most concerned about whether the item is durable and strong enough to be resistant to scratches from claws. It would also be better if it was easy to clean. (Female in her 40s) ・This is especially true when it is new (new construction or renovation), but even if you are careful when living, if you drop something on the floor or get it dirty, the floor will get scratched or the stain will not come off. Because I feel stressed. (Female in her 30s)
– Flooring and tatami mats can get scratched when young children drop things on them or scratch them with toys, so we place emphasis on resistance to scratches. In particular, tatami mats can be difficult to repair, so I find it appealing to read reviews that say they are resistant to scratches. (Female in her 20s)
2nd place is “resistance to stains and scratches”.
Some people said they wanted to choose something that wouldn’t get scratched or dirty even if it was a small thing, since they couldn’t easily change it if it got dirty or scratched.
3rd place: Ease of cleaning
・When dirt gets stuck between the eyes, it can be difficult to remove, and it is difficult to clean, so it is better to do something as simple as wiping it. (Female, 30s)
・Since there are small children, it is a big assumption that something will be spilled or it will get dirty. I think the most important thing is to use a material that is easy to clean. (Female in her 30s) ・As this is the part of your home that you live in every day, it is important that it is easy to clean, such as whether it is resistant to dirt and whether it can be wiped with water. (Female in her 40s) 4th place: Design
-The color, pattern, and material of the floor can dramatically change the atmosphere of the entire room. Light colors will brighten up the room, while dark colors will create a calming atmosphere, so choose according to the theme of the room. (Female in her 30s)
・I want to check whether the design is suitable for my house and whether there is any discrepancy between the design I saw in the image and the design I like by referring to reviews from people who have actually purchased it. (Female in her 20s)
・Since we place importance on visual enjoyment, we place emphasis on design, such as compatibility with wallpaper and confidence. On top of that, it has a good balance of cost performance and durability. (Female in her 30s)
5th place: Ease of use
・I was recommended solid wood floorboards, tried them out barefoot in a model house, and immediately fell in love with them. I want to choose my favorite because it’s something I touch every day. (Male in his 40s)
・Since it is a space that is used on a daily basis and comes in contact with the skin often, I would like to choose something that is easy to use so that I can use it without any complaints. (Male in his 20s)
・It depends on the user-friendliness of the tatami/flooring material that you refer to. This is because if it is easy to use, you can use it for a long time. (Male in his 30s)
6th place: Functionality
・Since tatami mats and floors are used for sitting and lying on, I think it is best to use natural materials as much as possible. Therefore, we refer to reviews about what kind of material it is made of and what functions it has (breathability, moisture absorption, etc.). (Female in her 50s and up)
・Recently renovated. All rooms have wooden flooring, and we chose an antibacterial, drying type that does not use varnish. I chose functionality because the area is humid all year round. (Male in his 40s)
・It depends on where you live, but answer with an image of a detached house. The ideal flooring or tatami mats are cool in the summer and cold resistant in the winter. (Male in his 30s)
7th place: Price
・I live in a house with tatami mats and flooring. The tatami mats are starting to deteriorate, so I’m thinking of replacing them. I’ve asked several tatami shops, and I’m looking for ones that are as cheap as possible and can replace the tatami in one day. (Female in her 30s) ・My house has hardwood floors except for my room, but even though it’s been built about 27 years, I’ve never changed the tatami. I don’t have a tatami shop nearby, so I found a tatami shop on my way to work, and when I talked to them, I learned that they cost quite a lot of money, so I still focus on the price. However, wouldn’t it be better to use tatami mats that are durable and stain-resistant? You can find the approximate cost of flooring materials at home centers, etc., so it’s about durability. (Male over 50s)
・I once bought an expensive tatami mat, but hangnails soon formed on it. If price and durability are not necessarily proportional, I think it’s better to buy inexpensive tatami mats and replace them regularly to prevent dust mites, so I focus on reviews regarding price. (Female in her 40s)
“Price” was ranked 7th.
Some people expressed the opinion that they would like to choose something of the highest quality possible rather than something that is cheap and would have to be replaced immediately.
summary
When we surveyed 100 people, 31.0% of them answered “durability.” Many respondents also said that they wanted to use the product for as long as possible because it is not something that can be changed easily.
Changing tatami mats and flooring materials takes a lot of time and money, so we understand that many people want to choose something that will last as long as possible.
Why not use this as a reference when choosing tatami mats and flooring materials?
