What is nursery school study abroad?
A study abroad program that connects local communities and families raising children to create the future.
Kitchhike, whose mission is to “enhance the value of the region and connect it to the future of the earth,” is a child-centered lifestyle where children can freely attend nursery school for a week or two, and the family can stay in diverse regions while parents work. The experience-based “Nursery School Study Abroad” program will begin in Assabu Town, Hokkaido in 2021 and will be rolled out nationwide (*1). For children, we want to provide an environment in which they can grow up healthy both physically and mentally by being exposed to nature at an early age. Families have a variety of options while working and raising children. In the region, we create a population with long-term family relationships and contribute to the local economy. The number of study abroad destinations has expanded to more than 35 regions, and so far more than 1,400 people and 400 families, including adults and children, have studied abroad (as of December 2023). In addition to receiving the 16th Parenting Award, which is Japan’s 2023
child-rearing trends selected by a popular child-rearing magazine, we have received numerous regional revitalization awards from the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Background of studying abroad at a nursery school in Takehara City Through the accelerator program “Takehara DX”*, Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is working on “challenging” and “advanced” projects, aiming for economic and industrial recovery through local innovation. This nursery school study abroad initiative started as a selected company for this project, and was realized with the cooperation of local governments, local businesses, and nursery schools.
Takehara City, located almost in the center of the coast of Hiroshima Prefecture, is a city blessed with a warm climate and rich nature in the Setouchi Inland Sea. It is called “Aki’s Little Kyoto” and has a “townscape preservation district” that retains the atmosphere of the late Edo period. The average annual temperature is approximately 15-16 degrees Celsius, and the climate is characterized by long sunshine hours and a warm climate. As this is an area with many activities that are not affected by the seasons, this study abroad destination is recommended for families who not only want to study at a nursery school but also want to enjoy relaxing time together at a resort. *Takehara DX HP https://takehara-dx.local-innovation.jp/
Key points for studying abroad at a nursery school in Takehara City Point 1: We develop each child’s mind and body with a well-balanced curriculum of intellectual, moral, physical, and dietary education based on the concept of “fun.”
Certified by Honchoji Gakuen Educational Corporation Chuo Kindergarten (hereinafter referred to as Chuo Kindergarten) provides childcare that allows children to grow up “brightly, kindly, and robustly” based on Buddhist philosophy. Based on the concept of “fun,” we develop each child’s mind and body with a well-balanced curriculum of intellectual, moral, physical, and dietary education. In addition to activities inside the school building, the school’s policy is to provide children with a variety of experiences, so there is a wide variety of activities outside the school. I go to the mountains and dig up bamboo shoots, go to the beach and play on the shore, and some days I even take a walk through the historic streets of Takehara. Events held at the school, such as festivals and sports days with local adults, are open to the public, and interaction with local people is active. [Image 2

Point 2: Spend a blissful time with your family in a rented villa overlooking the Seto Inland Sea
Where to stay in Takehara, we will guide you to a rental villa attached to the “Setouchi Golf Resort” that overlooks the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The villa, which was newly built in 2022, has a living room, dining kitchen, and a large public bath and restaurant within the facility. The villa where you are staying is attached to a golf course with a spectacular view overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, and the golf course can be used in a half-course plan or for small groups, so even families can easily try it out. If there is a vacancy in the accommodation building, you can stay for an additional stay, so you can enjoy a three-generation trip or a trip with friends. [Image 4

Point 3: Work space renovated from an old folk house built in the Edo period Parents participating in nursery school study abroad programs can use Takehara DX’s base, “RIG HOUSE,” as a workspace for free. “RIG HOUSE” is a workspace for people involved in innovation projects in Takehara, and there is also a community manager, so please feel free to ask about how to spend time in the area and what it has to offer. A feature of Chuo Kindergarten is that it offers a variety of activities both outside and inside the garden, depending on the season. In the summer, we go out to the Seto Inland Sea, and in the spring and fall, we go to the mountains by bus to dig for bamboo shoots and collect acorns, and are active in nature. The nursery school building is also full of special care, and there are many mechanisms that the children will be fascinated by! There’s also a wall where you can boulder and a little hidden passageway. The garden’s pride is its glass-walled cafe. Each class takes turns eating their lunch in the cafe space, and it is one of the pleasures of everyone to enjoy their lunch while looking outside and enjoying a different view than usual. We value childcare that allows children to find play on their own and increase their self-esteem so that they can develop the ability to think for themselves and live. I would be happy if my international student friends could find new things to do and things they are good at at this school.
