[Rakugo x Violin] Online Rakugo event “Shinsuke and Friends” sponsored by Mainichi Shimbun will be held!

The Mainichi Shimbun will be broadcasting the online rakugo show “Shinsuke and Friends” live on the Internet from 7pm on Friday, December 22nd. You won’t be able to get through the year without hearing this performance! 2 seats including “Shibahama”, a masterpiece among classic rakugo masterpieces. Contemporary music violinist Shungo Mise will be making a guest appearance.

“Shinsuke and Friends” is a rakugo performance broadcast live from Kokontei Master Shinsuke’s home practice studio.
We continue to invite guests and broadcast once a month with the aim of increasing the number of fans of classical performing arts and rakugo. Recommended for everyone from Rakugo beginners to those who go to Yose.
This time’s program has two seats, including “Shibahama”.
Our guest, Mr. Mise, is a violinist and the representative of the group “Awaiza”, which incorporates Edo culture into contemporary music and creates new expressions, and is active both domestically and internationally.
Please look forward to this innovative collaboration between classical rakugo and contemporary music.

“Shibahama” synopsis/highlights
A masterpiece among masterpieces performed in December. Katsugoro, a fishmonger who lives in a back row house, drinks only during the day and doesn’t work. One morning, he is forcibly woken up by his wife who can’t bear to see him anymore, and he reluctantly heads to the fish market. However, it was too early and the market was closed. When he goes to the beach to kill time, he picks up something strange. What happened after that…
You can enjoy the real pleasure of human stories.

Shinsuke Kokontei/Main biography
・1972: Became an apprentice to the late 3rd generation Kokontei Shincho ・1977: Promoted to second position; inherited master Shincho’s former name “Asata”
・1984-1999 Regular appearance on NHK TV’s “Okaasan to Issho” (For a long time, he has been running the “Hebi-kun Buta-kun” corner on the “Shinsuke Show.”)
・1985: Promoted to Shinuchi and assumed the name “Shinsuke Kokontei” ・From 2000 to 2003, served as a personality on NHK-FM radio’s “Meikyoku Recital” ・From 2000: Appeared in a family concert with the New Japan
