In this edition of “Sakuraike,” we will introduce the characteristics of an attractive elementary school in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, and the life of first graders.
There are two major features of Sakura elementary schools: “Sakura Studies” and “self-school style lunches.”
“Sakura Studies” is Sakura City’s unique curriculum where you learn about Sakura’s nature, history from ancient times, cultural and military culture as a castle town, and outstanding pioneers. In 2015 (Heisei 26), the Sakura City Board of Education received an award from the Minister of Education as an “Excellent Career Education Education Committee” for this initiative.
“Self-school lunch” means that all elementary schools have school lunch facilities and provide hot meals. The “Tsuda Sen” menu, which is made from Western vegetables and is said to have been popularized by Tsuda Sen (father of Umeko Tsuda on the new 5,000 yen bill), a samurai of the Sakura clan who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period, will also be served.
